Our Frequent Flyer is Living the Dream

HONG KONG -I can proudly claim that I have quite the talent when it comes to daydreaming. I especially dream about escaping Toronto’s cold winter weather no less than once a week — going from -30C to +30C weather and sitting poolside under the sun with a freshly muddled Mojito is all part of the day dream.

Luckily for me, I found a career that turned my day dreams into reality.

I am a flight attendant and I regularly travel from continent to continent, experiencing dramatic weather changes, which is nothing to complain about when I’m going from icy snowstorms to sunshine and white sand beaches within a matter of hours.

I once had this wild day dream that I could somehow celebrate Christmas with my relatives and friends in Hong Kong and the 12 hour time difference would give me just enough time to transport myself back to Toronto on the same day to celebrate it all over again with my family and furry little Pomeranian.

Believe it or not, there are people who do regularly partake in these events.

I would describe my weekly routine to be dramatically different from week-to-week. Some days, I get the opportunity to import freshly made breads and pastries from Paris and bring it back home just in time to serve at dinner.

I enjoy going to Halifax to satisfy my lobster cravings or to New York to find the best shopping deals on shoes.

While lobsters and shoes do not exactly correlate with each other, the important thing is to enjoy some of the best things that each city has to offer during a short stay.

For me, my favourite part about travelling is going grocery shopping for freshly baked goods, different cheeses, local wines and unique varieties of chocolate, which just so happens to be my ultimate guilty pleasure. The only thing I like more than shopping is consuming the things I purchase.

There’s always something inexpensive and interesting that I can bring back from my journeys for everyone to try and enjoy.

Those are just a handful of wonderful moments that come along with my job and the editors of TraveLife have given me this space to share my short “layover” adventures with you. As I’ve discovered, you can do a lot in a city in a short time and so in future issues I’ll be sharing my favourite restaurants, clubs, museums, dive spots and other tourist destinations so you can day dream along with me.

These are the perks of being a Frequent Flyer!
