Highlights: Why stay at one great hotel when you can stay in three during one visit to Bali. That’s what Aman Resorts offers with their 3 magnificent Garden of Eden properties located in different towns around the island. While each is distinctive in their own ways, each offers the kind of service, amenities and hospitality Aman has become famous for worldwide. TraveLife’s favorite was amazing Amankila. It’s bordered on one side by Bali’s famous black beach and an endless seascape (Lombok Strait) while on the opposite side guests are treated to tropical splendor highlighted by the peaks of volcanic mountains. The main pool at Amanusa is truly spectacular and surrounded by tables where guests can enjoy a romantic dinner. The night TraveLife arrived at Amanusa the entire pool had been cordoned off so a young Japanese man could propose to his girlfriend. Now that's romantic! Amandari, like Amankila, introduces guests to Bali's traditional lifestyle. Perched on an escarpment high above the Ayung River gorge, the resort is only a five minute drive from the art centre of Ubud.

History: Secluded Amankila is located outside the small village of Karangasem, which may be Bali's most traditional. Here guests will find reminders of the country's ancient royal past and share the black beaches with locals who march along them in colorful costumes in traditional cleansing ceremonies. Amandari introduces guests to the country’s legendary carving traditions and Amanusa sits overshadowed by a volcano that developed thousands of years earlier.

Interior Highlights: The Reception areas, dining-rooms and libraries of all three Aman Bali resorts feature local Balinese materials – timber, rattan and coconut leaves that enhance the generous use of hand-printed cottons, tropical flower displays and shrubs in tubs.

In the Next Room: Amanusa was a favorite of the late Princess Diana and many of her royal and Hollywood friends can still be seen milling around the pool and lobby areas.

The Rooms: A king-size daybed called a Bale, featuring a straw canopy, is what greets guests at one of Amankila’s 34 divine suites. Each of the suites is elevated by walkways and offers awesome views of the lush surroundings. All the suites at the three Aman properties have private pools where guests can bath in seclusion. However, the pools at Amankila are huge. The only thing tropical about Amankila, which means "peaceful hill", is the setting. The rooms, complete with outdoor showers, are jammed with all the creature comforts one can imagine and all offer the privacy romantics crave. All three resort rooms feature woven matting, timber panels, huge-canopied beds with carved supporting posts. Each suite also has a large veranda with stunning ocean views. Amanusa is located in the popular tourist region of southern Bali and offers more of those luxury-packed hidden villas (35) with the private pools and awesome views of the Indian Ocean and mighty Mount Agung, a volcano that sits off in the distance. Amandari’s 30 private suites are designed around a walled Balinese village. The setting here certainly lives up the resort's meaning - "peaceful spirits." There are 10 private beach pavilions here as well where guests have the option of enjoying an early morning breakfast while watching the sunrise.

Amenities: All the Aman properties here come with their own spas and the Thai-trained therapists cater to your every ache and pain. Amanusa offers reflexology treatments by a blind Balinese therapist named Pak Nyoman Budi. He uses his extraordinary touch to search the points of your feet that need to be treated. The remarkable Bali Golf and Country Club sits right next to Amanusa, which means "peaceful isle", and is a treat to play. The resort is also close to Bali's international airport and main shopping districts. The main pools at each resort are truly works of art.

Restaurants: Each of the Aman resorts offers traditional restaurants that serve up foods delicately spiced and come swimming in sweet sauces made from locally grown fruit.

Shopping: The main shopping area of Bali is located near Amanusa while Amankila and Amandari border traditional villages where handcrafted items can be purchased and taken home as valuable souvenirs.

Close By: Amanusa is close to Bali’s international airport. It’s also close to some fantastic beaches. The other two Aman properties are based near traditional villages and offer a glimpse into historic temples and the amazing terraced rice fields.

Tips: This may be the best $4,000 you’ll ever invest in yourself. If you want a glimpse of Heaven, this is the place you’ll get it. TraveLife rates Amankila the best of this resort trinity with Amanusa and its spectacular views a close second. The older, wiser Amandari is a treat and all three exceed expectations.
