Kuang Xi Waterfall

This waterfall is one of the most popular attractions of Luang Prabang and consists of three tiers leading to a 50-metre drop into spectacular azure pools before flowing downstream. The pools also make great swimming holes and are very popular with both tourists and locals. You can change clothes for swimming at the wooden huts located close to the entrance.
   

Elephant Riding
 
The Elephant Park Project Area is located about 15 km out of town and in the middle of a mountainous surrounding. An easy 3-hour trekking will lead you out into a local Kamu village where you get an overview of daily life and culture of this ethnic minority.
 

Pak Ou Caves

About two hours upstream from Luang Prabang you’ll find the Pak Ou Caves’ located in limestone cliffs above the Mekong River. The caves are filled with many wooden Buddha statues. You can reach the Pak Ou Caves by a two-hour cruise along the Mekong, and view lots of beautiful river scenery along the way.
   

Night Market
 
The daily night market is a must-visit place in Luang Prabang. Here you can buy souvenirs, craft and silverware. The night market is also a great place to try BBQ river fish, noodles, and other street food.

 

Phou Si Hill

The large hill in Luang Prabang is known as Phou Si or “Holy Mountain” and is a great place to watch sunsets, amazing views of the two rivers and the town. You can have a lovely picnic at the base.
   

Enjoy Laotian food
 
Food in Luang Prabang is very interesting. The local delicacy is Sindad BBQ. Baguettes and croissants, spicy soup, sticky rice and meat-based dishes are also popular. You can try various local Lao restaurants along the Mekong River roadside.

 

Whiskey Village

Known as Ban Xang Hai, this Lao village is on way to Pak Ou Caves. The local whiskey or Lao Lao is made with all sorts of snakes, insects mixed with the whiskey and sold in odd shaped bottles. You can also buy Lao silk and other crafts at the village.
   

Temple of the Golden City
 
Wat Xieng Thong or Temple of the Golden City is one of the oldest temples in Luang Prabang and dates back to 1560. You can see unique architecture here and check out the restored wall paintings, which look amazingly beautiful.

 

Royal Palace Museum

If you are interested in architecture, you will love the Royal Palace which was built in 1909 during French colonial period. In 1975, it was converted into a museum consisting of several buildings with ancient art and important artifacts.


   

Chompet Village
 
You can take a boat across the Mekong to the small village of Chompet where you can observe village life for a day. A few small temples and a miniature version of the Pak Ou Caves make the short excursion to Chompet worth the effort.
