Got my hands on an advanced copy of a new worldwide ranking of the “100 best cities to spend a weekend” and discovered two Canadian cities made the top 20.
The list, compiled and released by weekenGO.com, has Toronto in 14th place and Vancouver 19th - pretty impressive considering tourist favourites like Stockholm, Copenhagen, Cologne and Sydney rated behind Toronto and Vancouver was more preferable than Prague, Rome, Singapore, Lisbon and Edinburgh.
London tops the list while Berlin (2), Vienna (3), Hamburg (4), Paris (5), Amsterdam (6), New York (7), Munich (8), Barcelona (9) and Madrid (10) round out the Top 10.
A breakdown of the survey shows that while London came first overall, Berlin came on top for millennials, Vienna for families and Zurich for baby boomers.
To determine the criteria for the study, Berlin-based weekend.com looked at all the factors in over 1,000 cities worldwide which could affect a weekend trip, such as time spent stuck in traffic and the availability of accommodation.
"Given the fact that we looked at over 1,000 cities worldwide, every destination that made it to this top 100 ranking ought to be on your weekend getaway bucket list,” said Tobias Boese, co-founder and managing director of weekenGO.
