ORLANDO - “Checking in” at one of Walt Disney World’s hotels is taking on a whole new meaning thanks to new security measures introduced recently at its family-friendly park.
Walt Disney World, which is always in the forefront of security, has changed the “do not disturb” signs guests usually put on hotel door handles when they want privacy to “room occupied” signs.
That means Disney staff now can check out the room even if the sign is attached.
Most people I talked to last week when I visited Walt Disney World applaud the new safety measures, which Disney is considering employing at all their resort properties in the United States. Disney has one of the highest security levels in the entertainment industry but make it seem very seamless entering parks - airport security could learn a lot from Disney’s security team. This is just another effort to make guests feel more secure when they are at the happiest place on Earth.
Other hotel chains have adopted similar policies in the wake of the Las Vegas massacre - a gunman killed 58 people and wounded 546 others from a room at the Mandalay Bay Hotel. The gunman, Stephen Paddock, assembled his arsenal of weapons used in the attack over a number of days with the “do not disturb” sign on his hotel door.
NOTE: Canadians should also “check out” the new savings being offered to them exclusively by Disney - we get 20 per cent off tickets at Walt Disney World in Orlando and 25 per cent off at Disneyland in California.
