Luxury train going to the top of South America

Luxury train going to the top of South America

I've always maintained the only way I'm going to the High Andes where treasures like Machu Picchu are located is if someone builds an escalator to get me to the top. Hiking in high altitude is not my bag. Well, the people at Belmond - the luxury travel operator once known as the Orient Express Co. - must have been listening because they're building a luxury train that will take passengers into the highest reaches of South America. Sign me up!

The Belmond Andean Explorer as it will be known, will be on track in May, 2017 and will travel along one of the highest rail routes on Earth, traversing the Peruvian Andes from Cusco to Lake Titicaca and Arequipa.
Cabins come in suite/double, twin and bunk configurations, each with its own en-suite and shower.

Two elegant dining cars serve fresh and seasonal dishes using locally sourced ingredients, while an observation car offers an open deck with spectacular views and a lounge car features music from a baby grand piano and invites you to sip Pisco sours while enjoying the scenery.

Prices start from $462 U.S. per person ,per night, which includes meals, open bar and some excursions.

Meanwhile, two new cave paintings have been discovered near the Machu Picchu. The paintings depict a man and a camel in black and are drawn on a rock located about 15 minutes walking distance from Machu Picchu. The two drawings may have been made in pre-Inca times, the Cuzco Cultural Department has said, adding that more study is needed to confirm this theory. The paintings are not recorded in explorer Hiram Bingham's original findings when he discovered the Lost City of the Incas in 1911.
