Travellers take love and flirting to new heights: survey

Did you know that 29 per cent of Canadians surveyed said they tend to flirt more when they travel? And 10 per cent grandpa and grandma travellers say they would like to be members of the “Mile High Club?” Those are just some of the fascinating facts revealed in the “Canadian Romance on the Road” survey conducted by our friends at cheapflights.ca. There’s more:
When you break the flirting down between male and female, 37 per cent of men say they flirt more on the road while 21 per cent for women say they like to tease and travel. Additionally, 21 per cent of men regularly flirt with flight crew and hotel staff versus only 8 per cent of women, according to the survey. And, 21 per cent of men have pretended to be single when flirting on a trip versus 9 per cent of women. The age group that answered “yes” the most to all our flirting questions were those between 25-35 years old. No surprise there!
When it comes to making a romantic connection, over half (51 per cent) of the respondents said they would date someone they met on a trip, while 44 per cent said they would “hook up” with someone they met while travelling. Men were particularly open to dating someone they met travelling (60 per cent) while 43 per cent of the women said they would do so. Across the board, 20 per cent have actually dated someone they met on a trip (26 per cent of men and 15 per cent of women). And the same holds true for “hooking up”, as 57 per cent of men said they were willing compared to 30 per cent of women. As for actually hooking up? Among the men, 30 per cent actually had. For women, that number was 16 per cent.
The under 25 crowd is the most interested in dating someone they met on a trip (66 per cent said they would), yet it was also the group with the least experience doing so (15 per cent). And, finally, when asked if a vacation fling has ever turned into a real romance, 13 per cent of respondents replied yes (17 per cent for men and 8 per cent for women).
As for membership in the infamous Mile High Club, 28 per cent said they would join and 5 per cent reported they actually had. When we break down the data between men and women, men (41 per cent) were more than twice as likely as women (16 per cent) to be willing to join the club. Men also make up the majority of members (8 per cent versus 2 per cent of women). The 25-35 age group were on top in both respects as 41 per cent said they would join the club and 8 per cent already had. And passion is still alive in the over 65 age group. Of the respondents in this age bracket, 10 per cent said they would join and close to 1.5 per cent were, in fact, already members.
When asked whether they feel more in the mood to make love when travelling, close to half of respondents (47 per cent) said “yes”. Men (54 per cent) were more likely to have an increased vacation libido than women (41 per cent).
