AMSTERDAM - They spend more time in the air than most pilots. And collectively they’ve travelled the equivalent of 46.5 return trips to the moon.
Who are these inspired travellers?
Entertainers, of course.
And who’s the entertainer who travels most?
Rock legend and now Nobel Prize winner (for literature) Bob Dylan, that’s who. At least that’s what Amsterdam-based TravelBird, a package holiday specialist discovered when they conducted an in-depth study of the 2016 travel habits of 34 of the world’s top entertainers.
Dylan, the poet laureate of rock music, finished on top of TravelBird’s “Most Travelled Musicians Rankings” by racking up 35,551 travel miles to concerts worldwide in 2016. Overall, Dylan has travelled 1,389,374 miles in his illustrious career — that’s the equivalent of 55,80 times around the world or 5.82 journeys to the moon.
Next to Dylan comes the rock groups Metallica (1,307,842 career travel miles) and Aerosmith (1,099,901).

Left to right: Bob Dylan is in the air a lot but so is Mick Jagger and his Rolling Stones and superstar Cindi Lauper.
The rankings also disclose that Beyoncé has more tour miles than Jay-Z, Rammstein (a German Neue Deutsche Härte band) racks up more travel miles than Justin Bieber and Cyndi Lauper tops Snoop Dogg.
To create the ranking, TravelBird began with the 34 most popular performers, selected from the results of a poll on popular musicians created by TravelBird, both legends and new sensations, from a range of genres.
The total travel distance of their public engagements was then calculated, taking all national, continental and world tours into account, from the beginning of their career.
This includes arena shows, festival appearances and road trips but excludes private engagements. Using this information, TravelBird calculated exactly how many times around the world each artist could have travelled, as well as how many times they could have flown to the moon.
When possible, ground miles were used, and the figures reflect city-to-city rather than venue-to-venue distances.
Interestingly, TravelBird found that the years an artist has performed does not always mean they have travelled further, with the top two farthest-travelling performers having been active since the ’90s, beating the likes of those who have been performing since the ’60s, ’70s or ’80s.

Above: Steven Tyler of Aerosmith has logged a lot of air miles.
