The naked truth about top skinny-dipping spots

TORONTO - As I stand on the shoreline looking out on Hanlan’s Point one frosty March morning, I’m mesmerised by the low-hanging clouds hanging over Lake Ontario’s water as colder air meets warmer water. It’s hard for me to fathom that in just a few months, Hanlan’s Point’s iconic beach will be crowded with swimmers - many of whom will be parading around au naturale.
Apparently, according our friends at DatingAdviser.com, Hanlan’s Point ranks among the best nude beaches in the world, ranking alongside landmark skinny dipping locations in Brazil, Australia, Italy and Croatia.

In fact, six Canadian locations make the DatingAdviser.com survey of the “Best Skinning Dipping Spots in the World.”
To determine the best skinny dipping locations,  DatingAdviser.com compared 100 nude beaches worldwide to determine the best places to enjoy a naked swim. They then ranked the top skinny dipping locations in Canada.
This study considered the beach quality, safety, weather and lodging. This was across seven key metrics of skinny dipping friendliness: (1) pollution, (2) Blue Flag status, (3) weather, (4) air temperature, (5) water temperature, (6) safety and (7) hotel cost.
Each location has been given a ‘Skinny DIpping Index Score’ using the data points is the chart below. This represents the quality of the skinny dipping experience you could have at the location

Top 6 skinny dipping spots in Canada:

Lake Simcoe, ON: Spectacular Lake Simcoe is one of the most visited vacation spots in Ontario’s south-central region. Just over an hour north of Toronto, Lake Simcoe provides 287 square miles of water surface and 118 miles of shoreline.
Hanlan’s Point Beach, Toronto: Hanlan’s Point is on the Toronto Islands. This chain of islands used to be a peninsula connected to the mainland. Hanlan’s Point has long served as a recreation spot for Torontonians. Once you take the Hanlan's ferry from downtown Toronto, a short walk will get you to the beach – keep to the well-marked trails to protect the native flora and fauna. If you’re looking to get rid of your pesky tan lines, Hanlan’s Point is the place to go: it’s one of the only two official “clothes optional” beaches in all of Canada (the other is far away in B.C.). Are you feeling shy? Don’t worry; there’s a clothed area as well.
The Bruce Peninsula Grotto, Tobermory, ON: The Grotto, in Bruce Peninsula National Park, is one of the top tourist attractions in Ontario. A shoreline sea cave with beautiful blue waters, the Grotto is a unique natural wonder and a memorable place to experience. The hike through the park to reach the Grotto in Tobermory takes 45 minutes each way. The cave is stunning, carved from ancient limestone, and filled with Georgian Bay's crystal clear, pristine turquoise waters. You can walk along a ledge inside its cavity or, if brave enough, even swim inside.
Suable Beach, ON: Sauble Beach boasts over 11 km of sandy beach. It is a place for families and friends. Children love the shallow waters and the perfect "sandcastle-creating" sand. Located just over a couple of hours from Toronto, this beach has amazing sunsets and has had many marriage proposals made while the sun disappears over Lake Huron.
Rock Point, ON: Rock Point Provincial Park is located on the north shore of Lake Erie near the mouth of the Grand River in the Carolinian zone of southwestern Ontario. It occupies an area of 1.87 sqkm. Habitats within the park include wetlands, forests and dunes. Trees include the uncommon big shellbark hickory.
Wreck Beach, Vancouver: It’s a bit of a workout getting down to Vancouver’s legendary clothing-optional beach — look for the steep staircases of Trail 6 at the west end of University Blvd. to find your way to beautiful Wreck Beach (part of Pacific Spirit Regional Park). Come for the beautiful nature views, but please give other beach-goers their privacy. There are often vendors selling snacks and drinks on the beach, but it’s a good idea to come prepared with your supplies.

Dating Adviser’s Top International spots

1- Lokrum Island in Croatia:  This small uninhabited island is the best skinny dipping location globally, beating out other great nude beaches across the globe.
2- The second spot goes to Spiaggia Della Lecciona  in Italy, a famous gay nude beach.
3- Maslin Beach, Australia’s first official nude beach with rugged cliffs and views, takes the third spot.
4- The Washougal River in Washington State is the top location in the U.S., with picnic rocks and flowing streams.
5- The Praia de Galhet  is the best location in Brazil, with white sand beaches and a naturally preserved area.

Some tips for having a fun time skinny dipping:

1- Be respectful and have discretion. Try not to traumatize any small kids. We agree the human body is beautiful, but give people the opportunity not to look at you if they don’t want to.
2- Don’t forget sunscreen and bug spray. You don’t want to get a sunburn in that spot that usually doesn’t see the light of day.
3- Don’t skinny dip drunk. A little liquid courage could help you get naked. But if you are completely drunk, swimming isn’t safe and could land you in a dangerous situation.
4- Beware of leeches. With a bathing suit, they are one thing, and when you are stark naked, it’s another.
5- Make sure your friends are comfortable. If everyone is happy to strip down, then go for it.
6- Keep your eyes on people’s faces. Interact as you usually would and keep physical contact to a minimum.
7- No photos. If only celebrities and politicians could learn this too.
8- It’s not a big deal. Get over yourself and have fun. Remember that not even swimsuit models look like that in real life. So, relax and enjoy being naked.
