Fortaleza del Cerro

Not only is the fort itself amazing but the view overlooking the bay of Montevideo can’t be beat! Built in the 18th century, this fort is filled with history as well as the country’s war museum.

Palacio Municipal
 
Montevideo’s City Hall is another beautifully constructed building in the downtown core. Our favourite part of it however is the scale replica of David of Michelangelo located outside the building!

City Tour

Although a few of the items you see during the city tour are actually on this list it is definitely still worth the trip. The tour guides are very educated on facts and information that is important to learn when touring this unique city.

Solís Theatre
 
Constructed in 1856, this is one of the oldest theatres in South America and puts on some of the best performances. Recently the theatre has just completed a renovation which is supposed to make the theatre even better than before which is hard to imagine.

Obelisk of Montevideo

The Obelisk of Montevideo is one of the best sculptures in the city! Constructed in 1830 and made from granite, this is a must see during your time in Montevideo.


   

Palacio Salvo
 
This building, which was originally constructed to be used as a hotel, has recently been converted into office space. Although the inside of the building is not very interesting, the architecture is simply beautiful and unique on the outside.

Palacio Legislativo

The Uruguayan Parliament buildings should be near the top of any list. The sheer size and meticulous effort that was done to complete this building should really be admired.

Named after the famous José Batlle y Ordóñez, who was a former president of Uruguay. This park is filled with amazing sculptures as well as the first ever World Cup stadium, which holds 70,000 people!
